Minister of State for Farming, Food and the Marine Environment opens new £10m bakery for Signature Flatbreads

George Eustice MP, Minister of State for Farming, Food and the Marine Environment, opened a new £10m state-of-the-art extension to Signature Flatbread’s factory in Dunstable today (4 July 2016).

Already a major employer in the area, the expansion is projected to create a further 200 local jobs by 2018, boosting Signature Flatbreads’ current 680-strong workforce.

Signature Flatbreads supplies flatbreads such as tortilla wraps, pitta and naan bread to all the UK’s major retailers and foodservice operators. The company, unparalleled in its understanding of flatbread technology, uses bespoke equipment to produce award-winning and authentic products.

At the launch of the new Signature Flatbread’s production line, Food Minister George Eustice said, “Britain’s food and drink sector is a huge source of pride for people across the country and a top choice for investors around the world.
“Companies such as Signature Flatbreads put the sector in the global spotlight and show the world the quality and innovation our £100 billion food industry can offer.
“We will do all we can to help food and drink producers across the UK to explore potential investment opportunities to ensure this vibrant sector continues to thrive.”

Joint chief executives and third generation bakers William and Charles Eid prioritise product quality and innovation for Signature Flatbreads. Charles Eid comments, “This investment not only consolidates our position as the market leader in flatbreads, but also shows our commitment to improving quality and productivity in a competitive marketplace.”

The new production line, with a second to be built in the next two years, will ensure that the company is able to maintain its position as a market leader. Increasing the capacity of the rapidly growing company will provide immediate opportunity to develop exciting new flavour combinations, continue our expansion and deliver completely new products to the ever changing bread and bakery market.
