Signature’s Dan Ashley breaks World Record for longest football game

Signature Flatbreads’ Dan Ashley has unofficially broken the Guinness World Record for the longest ever consecutive game of football.

Kicking off at St Edmund’s College in Ware, the game for Albies Football Challenge lasted a gruelling 79 hours and 5 minutes with a final score of Green’s 719-599 Orange. Dan was the top scorer on his team with 126. The game of football is currently with Guinness World Records being verified.

The Challenge, which took place on 27 May, raised over £20K in funds for Tommy’s Charity which funds research into the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications that lead to miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

Dan said: “I have done almost an event a year since we lost Ruby in 2009 to raise money for stillbirth and neonatal charities. It is my passion to do whatever I can to reduce the chances of this happening to other people and in the sad circumstances when it does happen that the families involved get the care and support that they need.

“This event was by far the hardest event I have ever taken part in. Of the 79 hours I played for a total of 62 hours over the three plus days. I would like to thank Ben Tye, who also works in Commercial Finance, I couldn’t have done this without him. We pushed each other every step of the way through the 6 months of training and the 79hrs of the event.

“Both of us are incredibly proud to have been involved in this event and what we’ve achieved. We’d like to thank all the players, referees, supporters, helpers, anyone who gave us free food and equipment for the event and last but certainly not least every single person who has donated to the charity!”
