Signature’s Dan Ashley to take on World Record for pregnancy charity

Signature Flatbreads’ Dan Ashley, is taking part in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest ever consecutive game of football, for Albies Football Challenge.

Albies Football Challenge, which is kicking off at St Edmund’s College in Ware on 27 May, was set up by Bradley Hewitt after his nephew, Albie, was stillborn in 2013, two days after his due date. The world record attempt has been created to raise money for Tommy’s charity which funds research into the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications that lead to miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

Dan, whose daughter, Ruby Emily Ashley, was stillborn on 17 May 2009, has spent the last eight years fundraising for various stillbirth charities, and is hopeful that a new record will be set:

“We are aiming to play non-stop for seven days and nights, which would smash the current record of four and a half days. It’s ambitious but I’m hopeful that we will pull it off. 

“It’s a cause that is close to my heart and something that affects thousands of people in the UK every year. I would love to see people come along to cheer us on and give us the moral support to keep going.

“If people want to get a bit more involved we are looking for any support we can get, referees, players, volunteers and anything that will help the players complete the challenge, as well as our number one goal, which is to raise money for the charity.”
